Visit to the FC Oppenwehe Camp
As part of this year’s summer camp, a group of 33 children aged 6 to 12, along with their FC Oppenwehe chaperones, visited the German Wind Power Museum on July 21, 2025. The trip was part of a varied holiday program and was eagerly anticipated by all participants.
The group was warmly welcomed by the museum team in pleasant summer weather. After a brief introduction to the history and significance of wind energy, the program began with an exciting tour of the museum’s spacious outdoor grounds. In several small groups, the children explored the numerous historic wind turbines that document the development of wind energy use over many decades. The expert explanations of the chaperones piqued the children’s interest and prompted many questions, which were answered with great enthusiasm.
Afterward, the group moved inside the museum, where various stations invited them to participate. The experiment kits, in particular, proved to be a crowd-puller: Here, the children could conduct their own experiments on the generation and use of wind energy. Through play and curiosity, they learned how turbines work, how wind is converted into electrical energy, and the role technology and science play in this process.
A drawing competition was held at the same time for the younger children, allowing them to creatively express their impressions of the day. The imaginative and colorful pictures depicted wind turbines, landscapes, and their experiences in the museum and were proudly presented at the end of the visit.
The entire visit was extremely positive. The children were enthusiastic about the combination of learning and experience, and the caregivers also praised the good organization and child-friendly design of the program. The direct access to the turbines and the active participation in particular helped to make the topic of wind energy tangible and exciting.
A big thank you goes to the team at the German Wind Power Museum for a successful day. The positive feedback from everyone involved means we can certainly look forward to seeing them again in the future.
