Documentary about the REACT-EU funding program
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the EU has developed REACT-EU, a program designed to mitigate the economic and social consequences of the pandemic in Europe.
REACT-EU (Recovery Assistance for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe) allocates a total of €400 million for projects in North Rhine-Westphalia over the next two years. Of this, €260 million will be used within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The ERDF is being implemented by the North Rhine-Westphalia state government. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia is the lead agency.
The North Rhine-Westphalia state government has also commissioned the production of a documentary film in 2022, which will showcase five exemplary projects from the program, including the German Wind Power Museum.
The film can now be viewed on YouTube at the following link:
1st Place in the Minden-Lübbecke Homeland Prize 2022
Since 2019, the Minden-Lübbecke district has held two annual competitions, “Heimat Preis Minden-Lübbecke” and “Dörfer mit Ideen” (Villages with Ideas). These competitions recognize exemplary, concrete initiatives that are forward-looking and serve as models for the region.
The organizer is the Minden-Lübbecke district and the Office for Economic and District Development. The competition is supported by the North Rhine-Westphalia State Ministry for Home Affairs, Local Government, Building and Equal Opportunities (MHKBG).
In August 2022, Ulrich Zieske, Chairman of the Pedagogical Working Group of the German Wind Power Museum (Deutsches Windkraftmuseum e.V.), was fortunate enough to spontaneously seize the opportunity to register the association and its environmental education activities for the Minden-Lübbecke Homeland Prize and participate in the competition.

1st Place in the Science Video Award 2022
This year, Zukunft durch Innovation.NRW (ZDI), Europe’s largest STEM network, launched a competition for the third time, inviting young filmmakers from North Rhine-Westphalia to submit their media products related to science.
Association member Sarah Spreen from Arrenkamp won first prize in the “Best Design” category.
Background:
Several years ago, Sarah shot a video about the Lagerwey LW10.6/20 and uploaded it to YouTube. A QR code was attached to the Lagerwey’s gondola, which leads to the video via smartphone. The director of a film crew that was on the museum grounds in June 2022 as part of the “REACT-EU” funding program noticed Sarah’s video and encouraged her to participate in the Science Video Competition.
The competition:
The awards were given to short films and videos that addressed the STEM topics of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology and communicated them to the public in a creative and humorous, relaxed way.
The prizes in the categories
• Best Design
• Reuse
• Best Science Clip
• Best Explanation
• Funniest Video
were presented to the young winners by the competition’s patron, Ina Brandes, Minister of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Voith WEC-520 arrived
At the beginning of May this year, the last remaining component of the Voith WEC 520 was handed over to the German Wind Power Museum. The WEC 520 was a German research turbine with state funding from the early 1980s, which was located on a test field in Schnittlingen, Swabia.
Association member Jan Oelker presented the museum with a text on this topic, which was published by the Westfalen Blatt newspaper.

Geography Students Gain Insight into the World of Wind Energy
The German Wind Power Museum (Deutsches Windkraftmuseum e.V.) hosted a group of students from the EGEA (European Geography Association) on March 31, 2022.
EGEA is a network of geography students and those interested in geography who have been promoting and expanding cultural and scientific exchange within Europe for 30 years. EGEA currently has just over 90 locations in almost 30 European countries.

Dipl.-Ing. Heiner Gerbracht (energy engineering Gerbracht, Osnabrück) was invited to give the second presentation. He develops international renewable energy projects and covered the entire field of wind energy, photovoltaics, energy storage, and politics in his presentation.
Finally, Jonas Töpken, Citizens’ Dialogue on the Power Grid, provided information on the energy transition and power grid expansion, particularly on the challenges involved in the planning and approval process for new power lines.
All participants were satisfied with this very informative and diverse museum visit.
The Green Party Visits the German Wind Power Museum
On March 23, 2022, the German Wind Power Museum welcomed a special visitor: The two state parliament
candidates Jana Sasse and Benjamin Rauer,
as well as the NRW lead candidate Mona Neubaur, were able to gain a detailed insight into the German
Wind Power Museum's collection in bright sunshine.

Cooperation with the Mühlenverein Kreis Minden-Lübbecke
The German Wind Power Museum and the Mill Association of the Minden-Lübbecke district have
entered into a cooperation agreement. Effective immediately, the two associations will
support each other in the Minden-Lübbecke region.
The associations will promote each other. Furthermore, the Mill Association will include
the German Wind Power Museum as a new location on the renowned Westphalian Mill Road.
The cooperation has been agreed for an indefinite period and is intended to provide additional
impetus to both associations and to the history of wind power utilization in general.

EU funds German Windpower Museum
Starting last year several applications for various kinds of support on local, state and EU-level were made by some of the members of the German Windpower Museum.
One application called “Renewable Energies – digitally communicated and analysed” has now been greenlighted by the EU (Brussels) and the government of Northrhine-Westfalia (NRW).

Thus, a proper WLAN network as well as a new computer infrastructure will now be installed. For all future museum visitores this will be more than helpful in the way that content about windenergy as well as environmental education will easier be conveyed to them.
In addition guests may take part in video meetings and live experiments can be transferred to schools or universities.
As follows the official EU/NRW document (German language):
Enercon-20: New exotic blade
On Friday, August 13, the German Windpower Museum managed to win another truly unique exhibit:
The blade of an Enercon E-20, fully made of aluminium, was prepared and loaded at the Enercon factory in Aurich and sent to the museum in Stemwede.
The 10m blade is silver/light-greyish coloured and features all the Enercon typical specialties like the Albert Betz ideal blade geometry for higher output or the folded blade tips for noise reduction.

The blade was atually designed for the small-scale machine Enercon-20 – a 100kW turbine placed on a tube tower for application on farms, remote areas or developing countries. The machine came out as a prototype in 2007, but never went into serial production. Less than five were poduced.

Another fact is the Enercon E-20 was fully stall-controlled in contrast to the whole Enercon portfolio of the 2000s – with exception of the even smaller E-10.

The aforementioned aerodynamical features are major milestones in the technological development of Enercon and were applied thousands of timed across the world.
The “tiny” 10m aluminium blade demonstrates all these milestones “on eye-level” and hands-on.
Taking into account the progressive technology and the fact that Enercon-founder, Mr. Aloys Wobben, has recently died making an era end, the seemingly meaningless blade turns out to be of high importance.
The project was initiated by museum manager Jaeger. The transport was taken over by Wilfried Nobbe.
The German Windpower Museum cordially thanks Enercon for making this donation!
